PART 09 - SS23
THIS SEASON'S COLLECTION IS INSPIRED BY ARCHITECTURE IN THE WEATHERBOARD HOUSING SCATTERED ACROSS THE CENTRAL OTAGO LANDSCAPE.
DRAWN FROM TRADITIONAL WOOD PANELS LAYERED HORIZONTALLY AND MODERN VERTICAL CEDAR-CLAD BOARDS, THESE WEATHERBOARDS ARE THE PROTECTIVE FACADE OF THE BUILDINGS. THEIR STRONG LINEAR PANELS CONTRAST WITH THE ROLLING SOFTNESS OF THE HAZY SUN, SCORCHED HILLS AND MOUNTAINS THAT FRAME THE LANDSCAPE.
OTAGO HAS EXTREMES OF WEATHER AND SITS ON A MAJOR FAULT LINE. OVER TIME, THESE WEATHERBOARDS BECOME WORN DOWN, JIGGERED, CRACKED, SUNKEN AND IN SOME CASES, MISSING.
DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM THIS LANDSCAPE, SYMETRIA P09 REFLECTS THE LAYERING OF PANELS, UNWAVERING AND GENTLY SAGGING WHERE THEY ARE JUST HOLDING ON. STRONG, UNEVEN LENGTHS JUXTAPOSE WITH SOFT, FLOATING PIECES, EVENLY PLACED, BALANCING ONE ANOTHER OUT, AND AT TIMES, MISPLACED JUST LIKE THE BOARDS THAT HAVE MOVED OVER TIME FROM ENVIRONMENTAL FORCES.
